About Me
Hello!
My name is Derek Schmidt and I have a passion for sports digital and social content! I’m originally from Northern California and made my way to Texas where I graduated from TCU in 2016 with a degree in Film-TV-Digital Media.
As a student I was involved in a variety of activities, but none more important than my job on the TCU Football film crew. I started out shooting coaches film and transitioned into more of a creative role by my senior year. I held that job as a student for 3 years and it completely shaped what I wanted to do with my career. After graduating, I stuck around Fort Worth working for TCU Football as a video Graduate Assistant and shortly after that I found myself in Minneapolis, Minnesota working for the University of Minnesota’s football team.
Up north, I served as the Assistant Director of Football Video Services and split my time between coaches film and creative work. I learned a ton in that role and fell in love with the Twin Cities. If you ever find the chance to take a trip up there, I highly recommend you do so!
During the Summer of 2018 I got the opportunity to join a newly created digital department at my alma matter and I love every second of it! Creating content for the school I love and having the chance to help forge the digital brand of TCU Athletics is a dream come true for me.
I first got into video making as a middle schooler with the goal of becoming a famous YouTuber with my buddy Taylor. While our pool trick shot videos and short sketch comedies didn’t rake in the views, I loved the process of creating videos. That passion is something that has stuck with me and will always be a part of my life in some form or fashion!
